COUPLE THERAPY
At Emotion Clinic Notting Hill. we take couples therapy serious. It is not just individual therapy applied to two people. Expert couples therapy has its roots in systemic and family therapy, and requires specialise and intense training. Working with couples is always towards getting better at cooperating, being a team, feeling connected. We will find out what is best for your relationship.
EMOTION-FOCUSED COUPLE THERAPY
Emotion Focused Couple Therapy is a great approach for couples who want to improve their relationship and find their way back to deeper connection. By identifying the typical vicious cycles you and your partner are engaging in, we find access to the underlying unmet needs and I help you to express them more clearly. Those needs might be around attachment and fear of loss, but might also be around both partners feel seen and understood within the relationship.
Old wounds are often in our way when it gets to connecting or even forgiving. EFT offers powerful tools to support a couple in not only re-connecting, but also resolving their problems.
Video sessions for couples can reduce the stress of making time for couple counselling while juggling jobs and childcare. And some couples even prefer talking to the therapist from their own home.
EMDR IN COUPLE THERAPY
Conflict is attachment stress, usually bringing up patterns we learnt very early in our life. Couples therapy is very much about recognising these old patterns and supporting each other to replace them with more helpful new ways of reacting to old, often subconscious triggers.
EMDR can be a powerful tool to use when working with couples, offering the couple the opportunity to deeply understand each other's vulnerability and experience change together. This can be through processing of traumatic experiences, of neglect, or of emotions like fear or anger. I work with EMDR and with The Flash Technique.
RLT COUPLE THERAPY
RLT (Relational Life Therapy) is a highly effective approach to improve a couple's relationship quickly and sustainably.
Terry Real developed and teaches this unique way of looking at a couple's problems as a combination of unrelational behaviours (leading to a negative spiral, both partners are stuck with), unhelpful learning experiences each partner made in their family of origin (trauma), and a lack of skills to be more relational and supportive with each other. RLT addresses all of the above directly and from the beginning on. RLT therapists are direct and transparent, as well as empathetic and very skilled in helping clients to step out of their autopilot-setting and try new ways to address
